Is The Pokemon Anime Ending?

For the past 25 years, Ash Ketchum—known as Satoshi in the Japanese version—has been a child. It is obvious that the show’s timeline does not correspond to reality. 

On April 1, 1997, the first episode of Pokémon aired, and it seems we are at the most emotional point. So, is the Pokemon anime ending? Here is all we know. 

The first episode of the entire series included Ash’s hopes of winning the Pokémon League, although he was never successful. 

In episode 132 of Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series, which aired on November 11, 2022, in Japan, Ash finally realized his desire. 

Will the Pokémon anime conclude now that Ash’s tale has come to a satisfying conclusion?

Is the Pokemon anime ending? Here’s what we know

Pallet Town’s prodigy has been educating those adorable little pocket monsters about their power since the first episode of Pokémon aired back in 1997, all in an effort to become the recognized World Champion. 

And Satoshi, as he is known in Japan, has finally accomplished it after 25 years. 

It’s not an exaggeration to say that Ash has been waiting for this moment longer than a hungry Snorlax, and for a spell there, it seemed as though Ash would never realize his dream. 

Over the course of the last 25 years, Ketchum attempted to win a countless number of leagues and competitions. We’re talking hundreds, no, thousands, of episodes.

It brings back a lot of fond memories for Ash’s supporters, especially those who have supported him from the beginning. It’s comparable to Mario successfully eliminating Bowser or Luigi professing his feelings for Wario. 

Although we were all aware that it was theoretically required to occur at some point, we never anticipated it to do so within our lifetimes. 

Given how these past few episodes brought so many of Ash’s lifelong pals and Poké-buddies together at the end of his adventure, the victory is even more emotional. 

But all of this raises the question: Is Ash’s adventure over now? Is the Pokemon anime ending? Will Ketchum give up fighting now that he has prevailed? What does this signify for all of Pokémon, then?

Three more episodes of the Pokémon Journeys anime will air before it is finished in Japan. Episode 133, titled “Project Mew,” will air on November 25, 2022, followed by a one-week break, then the final two episodes of the season on December 2 and December 9. 

As a result, Pokémon Journeys will continue for at least three more episodes, while fans are concerned about the show’s longer-term prospects due to the finale’s title. 

‘Pokémon! I’m Glad I Got to Meet You!! resembles the title of the very first episode, “Pokémon – I Choose You! “, strangely. ‘ – and in a final, bookend-like sense, that most certainly seems purposeful. But more than just this point in time is raising questions. 

The song “I’m Glad I Got To Meet You” also sounds like something of a farewell, which is bad news for die-hard Ash fans. Is he really quitting the show? Is he being dragged away from Pikachu in a dramatic manner, or what?

There is currently no fresh information regarding what will really occur in those final two episodes, although a change of some type is undoubtedly in the works. 

Since there were more gap weeks and recap episodes this season than usual, some fans have begun to speculate that Pokémon’s run on television may be coming to an end. 

But that seems unlikely. Even today, Pokémon is still more influential in popular culture than all of the legendary Pokémon put together, so its future still seems secure.

Pokemon’s Future: Is Pokemon Ending? 

Pokémon is most likely to continue airing. But Ash might not be present in that future. Narratively, there isn’t much left for him to accomplish now that he has achieved his dream. 

Maybe another character may take the primary role, like Goh, who has been a significant character in this current season. It’s also not totally impossible that the game will get a reboot. 

Or maybe we’re simply being overly negative. After the episode aired, Ash’s major victory was also praised by Japanese voice actress Rica Matsumoto, but she isn’t quite certain that the end is in sight: 

Even though Satoshi [Ash] has gained the title of Strongest Pokémon Trainer, Matsumoto said in a statement to Oricon that “he still hasn’t become the Pokemon Master of his aspirations.”

Rica might be right. Ash has always had his sights set on winning the world championship, but as the world’s best theme song keeps telling us, it’s his “destiny” and he needs to “catch em all.” Additionally, given the constant introduction of new Pokémon, we have a hunch Ash will continue to be busy for at least another 25 years.

Everyone Celebrating Ash’s Accomplishment

Ash did the unthinkable and ultimately fulfilled his lifelong desire in episode 132 of Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series, which aired on November 11, 2022. 

Ash competed in a four-episode, 6v6 battle against the reigning World Champion, Leon, to earn this prestigious honor. When Ash first became a Master in Pokémon: Sun and Moon in 2019, he won a regional tournament, which led him to this new historic victory. 

After the episode aired, Ash’s accomplishment was noted online by the show’s official account, which wrote: “He’s done it! Ash has become a World Champion.” 

Then Sarah Natochenny, Ash’s English voice actress, tweeted a message of joy: “I’m eager to broadcast the English dub of this Pokémon episode to the entire world. What a privilege it is to be Ash Ketchum’s voice when he becomes a world champion. He truly is the best—no one has ever been better.”
