The return issue is particularly fantastic, as it wastes no time establishing the stakes for Goten and Trunks’ first major conflict as superheroes.
Although this makes the Dragon Ball Super manga arc a lengthy and involved issue, it is also a fascinating and joyous one. For some bizarre reason, the Red Ribbon Army has returned, and the series is reverting to its early days.
The issue has a nostalgic vibe that calls to mind the early days of Goku’s travels.
New Dragon Ball Super Manga Arc Connects Anime & Manga
The events of the previous manga arc, “Granolah the Survivor,” culminated in the massive unveiling of a new threat to the galaxy: Black Frieza is established as the immediate context of the Dragon Ball Super manga arc.
In the first episode of the new Super Hero arc, Goku and Vegeta are shown hanging out on Lord Beerus’s Planet, presumably getting ready to fight Black Frieza. The Super Hero movie said Beerus napped for a month in the fourth month before the events of that film began.
Hence the events depicted in this manga arc take place before Beerus’ nap. At the same time, it’s made very obvious that the Earth portion of this new “Super Hero” story arc occurs before the events of the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero film, as several of the characters from the feature film make appearances in the manga story.
For example, at the beginning of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Dr Hedo is incarcerated for engaging in a nefarious conspiracy involving the use of human remains in his robotic studies.

According to the film Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, this disc from the late Dr Gero leads to severe new threats. In Dragon Ball Super Chapter 88, we learn that Goten and Trunks, both teenagers, are tasked with protecting Earth while their fathers, Goku and Vegeta, are away at training camp for the impending battle against Black Frieza.
In the opening chapter of Dragon Ball Super’s Super Heroes arc, Goten and Trunks are dragged into stopping a spree of crimes in which Capsule Corp. helper robots are sabotaged. The two Saiyamen investigate and find that a terrifying man with Frankensteinian features is responsible for the sabotage.
After a fight at the criminals’ lair, Trunks goes Super Saiyan and defeats the powerful undead robotic opponents, leaving them out on the ground needing repairs. Goten frees some high school hostages to make room for him.
Dr Hedo shows up not long after Goten and Trunks leave the hideout, and he panics because the disc needs to be included. He probably needs it to create the next generation of androids (Gamma 1, Gamma 2, and Cell Max).
